A Clear Understanding of the Home Router

Nowadays, the development of network is growing faster. The home WiFi router that many users bought last time was still 300M, and the concept of a home router is still at a basic level of 60 or 70 RMB.

But the reality is that the old routers can not meet the needs of the ever-changing network development at all, stuttering and disconnection occur from time to time. While upgrading the broadband, don't forget to upgrade the home WiFi router simultaneously, so that the effect of fiber-optic broadband can be fully utilized.

Then question comes, in the face of a wide variety of products available in the market, how to buy a home router for your own home when choosing a home router?

Ⅰ. Confirm the needs of home WiFi routers

For most users, it is not very clear what kind of home router can meet their needs of home-WiFi use, so confirm your needs firstly before buying a domestic router. For example:

1. How many megabits of fiber-optic broadband in your home? 200M? 100M?

2. Do you need gigabit wired transmission? If you have high requirements for wired transmission, then NAS is necessary.

3. How many wireless devices are connected?

4. Do you need a mobile hard disk to share data?

5. Do you need smart management? Such as control, WiFi timer switch, etc.

If you meet more than 2 above requirements, then congratulations, you can directly ignore cheap products when choosing home routers.

Ⅱ. A clear understanding of the home router

After confirming the requirements, let's kick the blind spots first, so that you will never be fooled when choosing routers in the future!

1. Is the home router with "high power" best?

We recommend that you'd better choose qualified brands and do not buy home routers that are not certified by the national standard and produced by informal wireless network manufacturers. A router with over 100 mW transmitting power is against national regulations, which because the high electromagnetic radiation is harmful to the human body. And the signal noise will be amplified when the power is too high, as well the quality of WiFi cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, do take care and don’t be misled by the "high-power" slogan when buying a home WiFi router.

2. Home routers only look at the wireless rate, but not the wired rate

Some wireless network manufacturers claim that their products are gigabit routers, the WiFi transmission rate reaches to gigabit, but actually configured with 100 megabits network port, which also misleads many consumers. Thus, this phenomenon not only depends on the port rate, also relates to network port.

3. The "M" for Home WiFi router does not refer to "meter"

We usually see that the 600M advertised by domestic routers does not refer to how many meters the WiFi can transmit, but means the wireless transmission rate is 600Mbit per second. We can find that the larger the value, the faster the transmission and the smoother the data.

4. The more antennas in a home WiFi router, the better the signal?

Actually, there has nothing to do with the number of antennas and the quality of the WiFi signal. Such as some home routers which only have two antennas, but they are equipped with an independent power amplifier PA + LNA wireless module, and using techniques like beamforming, the signal coverage of some router also often broader than those with 3 or 4 antennas.

Therefore, when judging whether the signal of a home WiFi router is good or not, do not just look at the number of antennas, it also depends on the hardware configuration, software configuration, etc.
